“What, YOU become a hairdresser in less than six months – it takes YEARS to become a hairdresser!” was pretty much the normal remark from friends when I announced my intention to move away from my business to business marketing career, and step into the hairdressing industry. Six months later and I AM qualified as a hairdresser. But, more important than the qualification itself, is everything that contributed to that qualification – from day one, never having done anything remotely connected with hairdressing previously, I was cutting hair on the head of a real live human and what’s more, they liked what I had done!
I did look at other organisations offering similar courses, but am glad I chose Nicky’s salon, for a number of reasons; firstly, the man’s (Nicky Oliver’s) background, credential and personality, and the fact that they are Manchester City Centre based means they are at the “cutting edge” (no pun intended!) of hairdressing; secondly, our trainer Alison, whilst demonstrating excellent hairdressing techniques, coaching skills and patience, was a joy to work with, ensuring my fellow trainees and I always felt “secure” (despite me being so far outside my comfort zone) – I loved every minute of being there; thirdly, the course delivers exactly what it says because of the intense level of coaching.
I have just finished Level 2 and now intend to work freelance for a couple of years, hone my skills further and then set up a salon. I would wholeheartedly recommend the Nicky’s Academy to anyone who is looking to get a fast-track, painless entry into the industry.
